Qara Messer is designed by Qara Blades & Arts™, made by Join or Die Knives.

Qara Messer is our take on historical European short hunting swords and long knives. You are in for a surprise experiencing the velocity of the cuts that Qara Messer can deliver. Whether used as a hunting sword or as a cut & thrust blade for martial arts practice, Qara Messer is a reliable short sword.

Each order comes with a scabbard and a shearling sleeve to store your sword. This scabbard is made for a snug, but not tight fit for Qara Messer. Two steel loops fastened by a leather strap can be used with different belts. The chape is made of soft steel.

The current production period for each order is approximately two (2) months. Custom features based on our basic designs will be individually appraised. For inquiries about customized features, contact us.

The sturdy and straight point of Qara Messer is to optimize thrusting practices. The recurve spine and double fullers on the blade contribute to the toughness and nimbleness of the blade, ideal for thrusting practices with short swords.

The short and slender structure of the blade is designed for effective slashes with a flaring yalman, a characteristic of longer and curved Turkish kilij. The percussion point is just ~1” apart from the forward pivot point. The proximity of these two points on the blade allows for optimal cutting performance, similar to long knives and short swords with a light counter-weight in the hilt.

The knuckle guard is designed to protect the sword hand from potential impact with hard surfaces.

The structural properties of Qara Messer are compatible with historical sword arts practices, such as those with langes messer and dussack. The sturdiness and multifunctionality of Qara Messer also make it an ideal hunting sword on your next hunting trip.
